Interesting video on the difference between sympathy and empathy. Really liked it. That said I think the definition of sympathy is a bit vague, for me sympathy has an element of judgement (“that’s really bad”, “well done you,” “They shouldn’t have done that to you” etc.). I also feel people don’t just need connection but also need support in building solutions. Though on the whole I found it really powerful and helpful. Also made me think that counselling skills tend not to be discussed much in the corner of careers development blogging I hang out in. Food for thought.
